It has always interested me… what deep ties we have with our families.
In both good families and bad families the impact we have on each other is exponentially larger than that of other people in our lives.
So one of my brothers comes to visit unexpectedly this past weekend and everyone rushes around to change our schedules and make room for time together.
It’s almost a comedy of cross-communications, anticipating responses that never materialize, speaking for each other, dancing around differences of opinion, etc. etc.
You have to take a step back and have a good laugh at the antics. Only family will we go to such heroic lengths to, in this case, spend time with each other, while at the same time be driven crazy by each others idosyncracies.
All said and done, we had a wonderful time catching up, playing cards, and eating too much pizza.
The bit of craziness mixed in is par for the course when it comes to family. Good thing too! Because the deep ties are there whether we like it or not.
I’m blessed to be a part of a family that likes it.
